It's ALWAYS a great day to be a CHAMPION CHARGER!

Welcome to the seventh week of the 2026–2027 academic year at Samuel V. Champion High School!  Each week we have seen tremendous growth in our students, our faculty and staff and community that supports each other in every possible event, show, game and challenge we may be facing or competing in.  Reminding students that their only competition is who they were yesterday is often difficult.  It takes a great deal of discipline to continue to work so hard when you are not in your comfort zone.  I love the quote by Jim Rohn….
 "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”
All of our Champion community has not only watched our students grow, but we have watched their struggles.  We know their grit and determination, we have seen their drive.  We are so proud of them each and every day, but the struggles are what we can do better with.  We have to purposefully lift each other up when the struggle and competition is hard.  When everyone is giving all they have to be successful and the discomfort is rising.  
I challenge all of our students, faculty and staff and community members
 to look for someone to lift up this week!  
Find someone who needs encouragement or just a kind word.  
Find your “swim buddies”, those that make it their mission to remind you how awesome you are. 
 Lean on them, learn from them, and let's all make each other stronger and better together! 
 Let’s make it a GREAT week!

*Parents/ Guardians, we are requesting your assistance with dress code.  Special assistance is needed making sure our shirts and tops cover the midsection.  Shorts and Skirts also need to maintain an appropriate, modest length.  
  • SHIRTS: Shirts must be worn at all times while in the classroom, on school grounds, or at school-related or school-sponsored events. 
  • Shirts and dress tops must have straps and must be worn on the shoulder.
  • Undergarments should not be visible.
  • Midsection may not be exposed. Excessively large armholes are prohibited.

Automotive ~

Ford of Boerne has donated a great car for our students to work on in the auto shop!  A huge thank-you to Ford of Boerne!!  This hands-on opportunity will allow our students to apply what they are learning in the classroom, develop their technical skills, and gain valuable real-world experience.
Donations like this make a tremendous difference in the education of our students by giving them the opportunity to learn by doing. We are grateful for the support of our community and for those who invest in the future of our students and their careers!

The Environmental Club continues to keep our campus beautiful! A BIG THANK-YOU to our Environmental Club for taking the time to help with a campus cleanup! Your willingness to give back and take pride in keeping our school grounds clean and beautiful is truly appreciated. Thank you for being great examples of school pride and showing that even small acts of service can make a big difference in our school community!

Speech & Debate ~ by Mr. Garza-Long

CHS Speech and Debate had another fantastic weekend at the Warren Summer Bash Tournament. In Congressional Debate, Penelope Acosta finished 3rd, Emerson Gonzalez finished 7th, and Shiloh Musat finished 13th. In US Extemporaneous Speaking, Jemma Cardwell finished 6th while Evangeline Hodgerson, Penelope Acosta, and Anika Dhamanaboina made Semi-finals. In International Extemporaneous Speaking, Mackenzie Johnson finished 4th. In Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, Emerson Gonzalez got first place while Kayla Means and Aurora Lentz made semi-finals. In Poetry, Vincent Viggiani finished 6th place. Finally, the World Schools Debate team made up of Jemma Cardwell, Ariyanna Rivera, Evangeline Hodgerson, Claire Rollins, and Anika Dhamanaboina reached the round of Semi-finals. With these finishes, numerous students gained points towards qualifying for TFA State - the other league we compete in besides UIL.

Charger Volleyball ~ by Coach Hillman

Charger Volleyball Weekly Update💙🏐
Last Tuesday against Antonian, the Freshman team fought hard in a 3-set loss, JV secured a big 2-set win, and Varsity took a set off a tough opponent. On Friday, the Chargers swept South San on the road! All three teams are now 3–0 in district play.

SCHOOL REMINDERS

SCHOOL PICTURES

  1. Underclassmen Picture Days went well.  PARENTS - you can order your child's picture online at  https://inter-state.com/FlyerEntry/0511FP   You can also call Inter-State Pictures at 210-462-1807.  If you have questions, parents can go to: https://interstatesupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us  for even more support.  IF you were absent on picture day, no worries!!!  Make ups will be on 10/27-28 through your English class. 
  2. SENIOR MAKEUPS:  These are scheduled for Sept 29th.  All 146 students who did not take their picture have been email (along with their parent email) with their appointment time for the 29th. All teachers and the Student Info Center will also have the schedule to help assist seniors.
  3. CLUB PICTURES:  Club pictures will take place on Oct 22.  Your club sponsor will tell you when your club will meet in the auditorium for your picture time.

Morning Announcements

Spanish National Honor Society : Attention members of the Spanish National Honor Society! The Spanish National Honor Society will have a meeting on Tuesday, September 22 at 8am in the library. Please make sure you and your guardian have signed the club permission to participate and you have returned it to Mrs. Koo in B154 no later than Monday, September 21. 
Grad Ad Nights: Grad Ad Nights will be held Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 4 pm to 8 pm in room A134.
NEHS Meeting:  NEHS Meeting will be held Wednesday morning at 8am in the library.
Student Voter Registration:  Student Voter Registration is Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 am to1pm in A200 Wing.
TSIA Testing: TSIA Testing will be Wednesday-Saturday in the library.
Skills USA Meeting: Skills USA Meeting will be Thursday morning at 7:45-8:30am in the library.
PROM Planning Meeting:  Prom Planning Meeting this Thursday at 8am in Ms. Spoor’s room (A217).  All Juniors welcome!  Come help us plan the best prom EVER!!
Junior Class top 25% Meeting: We will have a Junior Class top 25% meeting during advisory on Thursday in the auditorium. 
COUNSELING DEPARTMENT: The ASVAB test will be offered on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30 AM in the Champion High School Library and is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. You do not have to be interested in joining the military to participate—the ASVAB is a great way to explore your strengths and potential career paths. Sign up by this Friday, September 25. Freshmen Minute Meetings
We are excited to be starting our “Minute Meetings” with our freshmen. This is an opportunity for us to get to know our newest Chargers on a one to one basis. It will take place over the next two weeks and we’ll meet individually with each of our 9th grade students in a quick “get to know you” session. 
Positive Connections
During the next few weeks, all grade levels will be attending a presentation during advisory entitled “Creating Positive Connections.” Counselors will present information to equip students to build healthy friendships and social relationships. Topics such as Active Listening, Effective Communication, and Conflict Resolution Strategies will be covered. For more information, please reach out to the counseling office. 
PSAT
The PSAT test date this year will be on October 6th. All 10th graders will be signed up and paid for to take the test automatically. Any 11th grade student who is interested in taking the test for the National Merit Scholarship program will also be allowed to take the test. The link can be found in the Google Classroom for the class of 2028 and will be open for juniors to register starting on September 16th. 
NMSC
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an opportunity for juniors to be awarded college scholarships based on their PSAT score. Here is a link for more information: https://www.nationalmerit.org/s/1758/start.aspx?gid=2&pgid=61
Congratulations to Evangeline Lefler and Isaac Martinez! They are our Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program! They are among the less than one percent of highest scoring entrants in the state of Texas. They will move on to the finalist level of the competition where they will compete to win a title as a Merit Scholar as well as thousands of dollars in scholarships. We wish them the best of luck!  In addition, Congratulations to our Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program! They are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on PSAT/NMSQT last year.

TSIA Test
The TSIA is a test that most colleges and universities require upon enrollment. It has three parts: Math, ELAR and an essay portion. It is a test that assesses college readiness and if students score a 950 (Math), 945 (ELAR), as well as a 5 on the essay portion, they will meet the CCMR requirement. The test will be offered several times throughout the year and juniors and seniors are highly encouraged to take it, but it is open to all grade levels. See the flyer below for the first semester TSIA dates. The test takes about two hours and will take place in the library. The cost is $5 for each section and the registration form can be found in the Google classroom for each cohort. 
ASVAB Testing
Testing will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 8:30. Testing is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.

SKYWARD ACCOUNT

Stay connected with Skyward and Parent Square! If your child attends both CHS & BHS, you will get notices from both schools. Only you can manage your accounts; we do not have rights to change you from a distribution list.
  • Skyward Family Access - This is a great support for you. You can see parent notifications, grades, attendance, as well as, view student progress reports and report cards at any time. We ask that you keep this account up-to-date at all times, especially emergency contacts and family contacts. This is critical because students are not allowed to be check out with anyone except the family members listed in emergency contacts! 

  • Parent Square -  Please be aware of the following: (1) Parent Square and Student Square data is synced based on the information in Skyward Student.  (2) If a parent wants to update their parent square information email or phone number then this has to be edited on the campus in Skyward and the data will then sync overnight to Parent Square.  Please contact Maria Bidot @ (830) 357-2613            (3) If both parents want access then 2 different emails must be used and assigned to 2 different cell numbers.
