Welcome to the sixth week of the 2026–2027 academic year at Samuel V. Champion High School! This week we have Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Waterpolo, Band, Charms, Cheer and Cross Country all needing support from our amazing cheering section!

And this is exactly what we find in the CHAMPIONS. “For me the joy of athletics has never resided in winning.” Jackey Joyner-Kersee tells us, “...I derive just as much happiness from the process as from the results. I don’t mind losing as long as I see improvement or I feel I’ve done as well as I possibly could. If I lose, I just go back to the track and work some more.” This idea- that personal success is when you work your hardest to become your best --was central to John Wooden’s life. In fact, he says, “there are many, many games we won, simply because we prepared fully and played near our highest level of ability.” - Mindset, by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D.
Our students, faculty and staff, show amazing character and carry the Heart of a Champion each and every day. Walking the halls of CHS you will find dedicated teachers, determined students, and staff that want ALL students to succeed. Look in the stands at a football game, a volleyball game, waterpolo, etc. The students and teachers and staff support each other and want the best for their classmates and colleagues. It truly is the BEST High School in the State of Texas. Coach Ellis says it best,
“Champion High School is the best place on earth!”

The varsity boys golf team gained invaluable experience this weekend battling against 52 of the state’s premier teams at the Bart Granger tournament in Ft. Worth—the largest high school golf tournament in the nation. Facing top-tier competition at Pecan Valley Golf Course gave the squad a fantastic early-season benchmark and plenty of momentum to build on.
Individual Highlights

Boden Bouslog & Cooper Relf set a strong pace, delivering consistent, competitive rounds of 77/82 and 79/80.

Matthew Mendoza stayed right in the mix, showing great composure with a solid 79/82 total.

Joaquin Cavazos made a big splash in his high school tournament debut, demonstrating impressive resilience with a standout second-day rebound (82/78).

Everett Christian displayed pure determination, grinding through all 36 holes to post consistent back-to-back 86s.
A 37th-place team finish gives the boys a clear starting line as they tested themselves against Texas's best in 4A, 5A, and 6A. With a long season ahead, this team is hungry, dedicated to daily growth, and locked in on reaching their full potential by the time district, regionals, and state arrives.

CHS Speech and Debate had a stellar weekend at the La Vernia Bear Brawl Speech and Debate Tournament this weekend. We brought 21 competitors - the most we’ve ever taken to a tournament. We had success in almost every event that we competed in. Jemma Cardwell got first place in Domestic Extemporaneous speaking and Ariyanna Rivera and Evangeline Hodgerson finished in 6th and 7th place respectively in that event- all three received bids to Nationals with this placement. Mihika Puvvena finished in 3rd place in Foreign Extemporaneous speaking and Mackenzie Johnson, Aldo Gonzalez, and Gayasuddin Shaik made semi-finals in that event - Mihika received a bid to Nationals with her finish. Juliana Nelson, Manaswini Donthlua, Claire Rollins, Emerson Gonzalez, and Preston Cook all made semi-finals in Novice Extemporaneous speaking. In Congressional Debate, Penelope Acosta and Mihika Puvvena were finalists while Emerson Gonzalez and Giuliana Hernandez were semi-finalists. In Public Forum Debate, Jemma Cardwell and Mackenzie Johnson got 2nd place. Lauren Winslow finished 5th place in Novice Prose. Finally, Estella Androne made semi-finals in Informative Speaking. |

This weekend several Charger Band students competed in the TMEA Region 29 Jazz Auditions. In one of the most competitive Region auditions in the State alongside students from across San Antonio in both 5A & 6A programs. Champion Charger Band is proud to have 2 students earn a Region Chair and the only students in Boerne ISD to earn this Honor! Junior Danny Stuart earned 1st chair in the 2nd Region Jazz Band and Senior Evan Rodriguez earned 5ht chair in the 2nd Region Jazz Band. Congratulations to both Danny and Evan! |

Members are looking forward to an active and exciting year filled with teaching, service, and leadership opportunities. The meeting was led by Co-Presidents Lucy Waterman and Madison Krouse, Secretary Presley Janke, and officer Hannah Morales. We are excited to see all that TAFE will accomplish this year! |

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT: The ASVAB will be offered on Wednesday, September 30 at 8:30 AM in the Champion High School Library and is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. You do not have to be interested in joining the military to participate—the ASVAB is a great way to explore your strengths and potential career paths. Sign up by Friday, September 25. Schedule Changes
Thank you for your patience as we are finalizing AP/Honors drops. The deadline to request a drop was Friday, Sept. 11th but we are still processing all the requests. If your student requested a change and their schedule has not changed by this Friday, please reach out to your student’s counselor.
Positive Connections
During the next few weeks, all grade levels will be attending a presentation during advisory entitled “Creating Positive Connections.” Counselors will present information to equip students to build healthy friendships and social relationships. Topics such as Active Listening, Effective Communication, and Conflict Resolution Strategies will be covered. For more information, please reach out to the counseling office.
PSAT
The PSAT test date this year will be on October 6th. All 10th graders will be signed up and paid for to take the test automatically. Any 11th grade student who is interested in taking the test for the National Merit Scholarship program will also be allowed to take the test. The link can be found in the Google Classroom for the class of 2028 and will be open for juniors to register starting on September 16th.

TSIA Test
The TSIA is a test that most colleges and universities require upon enrollment. It has three parts: Math, ELAR and an essay portion. It is a test that assesses college readiness and if students score a 950 (Math), 945 (ELAR), as well as a 5 on the essay portion, they will meet the CCMR requirement. The test will be offered several times throughout the year and juniors and seniors are highly encouraged to take it, but it is open to all grade levels. See the flyer below for the first semester TSIA dates. The test takes about two hours and will take place in the library. The cost is $5 for each section and the registration form can be found in the Google classroom for each cohort.
ASVAB Testing
Testing will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 8:30. Testing is open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. While this is often seen as a test for students going into the military, it is SO MUCH MORE! The ASVAB is an aptitude test that can help students find their strengths and learn about possible career options they may have not considered. Please consider taking this test to see what opportunities are out there for you! Skyward Family Access - This is a great support for you. You can see parent notifications, grades, attendance, as well as, view student progress reports and report cards at any time. We ask that you keep this account up-to-date at all times, especially emergency contacts and family contacts. This is critical because students are not allowed to be check out with anyone except the family members listed in emergency contacts!

Regular attendance ensures that students don’t miss important instruction, can actively participate, and maintain the structure needed to learn effectively. Even bright students can struggle to succeed if they miss too much school. Make your attendance in school a top priority this year! ***There are 157 seniors who did not get their picture taken prior to school beginning. You will need to make sure you go to the make-up Senior Picture Day on Sept 29. We will send you an email THIS WEEK with your assigned appointment time - this will be during class time and there will be an afternoon time for anyone who is a shuttle student or a Boerne Academy student.
