Welcome to the UIL Academics information page! (Updated 8.5.24)"The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive program of academic competition in the nation. UIL Academics offers more activities than any other UIL division, with 30 contests at the high school level and 20 A+ Academic contests for grades 2-8. More than half a million students participate in UIL academic contests each year. These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, exhibiting much more than knowledge and comprehension."
At Champion HS, we have a highly successful UIL Academics program, sending teams and/or individuals to the Regional and State meets every year.

Starting in September of each year, we will participate in virtual meets against other students from across Texas, and then we have invitational meets (1 or 2) in the spring before our district meet in March.

The Boerne Outdoor Academy (BOA) began in 1997 with one campus and 75 students. BOA has increased to include more than 550 5th grade students from our elementary campuses.
BOA allows elementary school students the opportunity to learn through experience alongside parents, volunteers and a team of high school student leaders. This opportunity takes place in the unique Hermann Sons Camp. For three days students experience hiking, canoeing, water studies, crafts, team building and so much more!

WHAT IS DEBATE?
Basically, a debate is an argument with rules. Debating rules will vary from one competition to another, and there are several formats for debates. Debates can involve single-member teams or teams that include several students. Students compete competively in both TFA, NSDA, and UIL circuits of debate.
There are also speaking and interpretive events in which students may compete.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE MEETINGS?
Practices are Monday through Thursday from 4 - 5pm in B249

Mathematics honor society whose main goals are to inspire keen interest in mathematics, develop strong scholarship in the subject, and promote the enjoyment of mathematics.

The National Honor Society was founded with the purpose of recognizing and encouraging academic achievement. The purpose of the organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in individuals.
Eligible students may apply for induction starting in May each spring. Through the application process, students will submit documentation of inside and outside community service hours, teacher recommendations and a leadership essay. Students must have a GPA of 92 or above, and meet the minimum number of application points to be inducted into the Champion chapter of NHS. An induction ceremony is held each fall (usually in October).

Rho Kappa is a Social Studies Honor Society and is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies.
Students attend meetings, coordinate service projects, and work events in the fall and spring semesters.
Eligibility for this organization at Champion High School:
· have at least an Overall 3.0 (86%) GPA.
- have at least a Social Studies 3.7 (90%) GPA.
- submit a copy of their transcript with their application.
- have taken at least 4 semesters of Social Studies courses and be a Junior (11th Grade) or Senior (12th Grade) at Champion High School.
- have taken at least 1 Social Studies Honors, AP, or Dual Credit course.
- have at least one letter of recommendation (or signature on the application form) from a Social Studies faculty member at Champion High School.
- fully complete the student membership application form and submit it to Mr. Miranda in Room A238 by Friday - August 29, 2025.
- pay an admission fee of $20 on RevTrack by Friday - September 12, 2025.
- submit the parent permission form to Mr. Miranda in Room A238 by Friday - September 12, 2025.
Organization Purpose: The purpose of this organization is to further develop a passion for social studies and social studies related topics and fields through service in the community, a promotion of leadership, and a development of character within its members at Samuel V. Champion High School.

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH), known in English as the “Spanish National Honor Society,” is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize outstanding high school achievement in Spanish and to promote interest in Hispanic studies. Qualifying students are invited to join each year. To qualify, one must be a student of good character who has shown exceptional scholarship in Spanish and his/her other classes. The La Familia Sotello Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica was established at Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School in 2009 by Dr. Evita Rduch.

Objective:
The Student Council is a student-based civic organization designed to help promote school spirit and leadership among students.
Purpose:
- To develop positive attitudes and to practice good citizenship.
- To promote harmonious relations throughout the entire school.
- To improve student/faculty relationships.
- To improve school morale.
- To plan special events or projects.
Student Council General Membership:

Student Leadership Course: Current sophomores and juniors can apply for the Student Leadership Course. Applications are available in the spring of the current year for the upcoming school year.
NOTE: The Student Leadership Course and Student Council are not the same. Student Leadership is an elective course that follows an approved curriculum for which students can apply. It uses the Student Council as the basis for the lessons taught and students in the course will take on leadership roles in the CHS Student Council Organization. Acceptance into the course is not guaranteed. Student Council is an official student organization in which the student body can join at any point during the year by visiting the Student Council Google Classroom and completing the General Membership Application Form.
