Understanding Core-42 (Core Complete)

Core-42, What Is It?

  • Core-42 is a component related to future bachelor degrees after high school.
  • Essentially, a bachelor's degree that typically requires 120 college credit hours to complete will have a "Core" component that is required of students to complete before they get into their major of study classes.
  • These "Core" components are English, Math, History, Science, and a few other components like Speech, Fine Arts, and Social Behavior. These are courses that are technically available to take in high school via Dual Credit  or AP courses, and the college credits that are typically earned to complete it add up to 42 college credit hours, hence the "Core-42"
  • You may also hear Core-42 referred to as being "Core Complete"
  • The cybersecurity associate degree has five classes that are apart of the Core-42.
  • Cybersecurity students can choose to pursue Core-42 on top of working towards their associate degree, but it does take a lot more work and potentially summer college courses to be taken.
